This project is supported by a City of Pearland Cultural Arts Grant program from Visit Pearland

About Us

The Pearland Community Band (“PCB”) is a volunteer musical group formed in 1996.  It is composed of professional and nonprofessional musicians who enjoy meeting weekly.    No auditions are held; however, we perform musical pieces in various levels of difficulty; therefore, basics of rhythm and ability to read notes are required.  School-aged students are welcome to join, if they have had at least 2 years of playing experience.

ATTENDANCE

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm at the Pearland Jr. High South campus.  Out of respect to our rehearsal host, we ask that you help put the chairs and stands back and to make sure that we do not leave trash in the room after rehearsals.   Members are responsible for bringing music and instruments.  Except for Percussion equipment, no instruments are available for loan.

No member is required to attend rehearsals or concerts.  However, for the band to perform at its highest level, we encourage 50% of attendance and a minimum of 1 of 2 rehearsals prior to each concert.  The latter is important because last minute revisions may be made by the conductor.  Exception to the requirement is at the discretion of the conductor.

MEMBERSHIP:

We never want financial hardship to prevent anybody from joining, and the Officers work hard to minimize dues.  However, we do have operating expenses that must be paid (conductor fees, music, storage, etc.).The dues for the 2025-2026 Season are:

Fall (Aug-Dec):           Adults: $30    Students: $10             Due by 9/30/25

Spring (Jan-July):     Adults: $50     Students: $10             Due by 2/24/26

For those who join after May 1st, please talk to one of the Board members

We do offer limited “scholarships” if you are unable to meet the financial obligation.  Please feel free to talk to any of the officers.

GIVING:

PCB is a 501 3(c) non-profit organization supported by annual dues, small grants, and donations.  Some major companies offer its employees volunteer grants (through service hours) or matching donations.  Service hours are usually related to your participation in the band (e.g. rehearsals, concerts, etc.).  Please check with your HR departments if company offers community grants.

Financial donations above $250 will be mentioned on our website.  Your dues can be reported as a contribution on your annual tax report.

SAFETY:

For the health and safety of all our members, please do not attend rehearsals/concerts if you exhibit any, but not limited to, the following symptoms:

Fever or chills                                                    New loss of taste or smell

Cough                                                                 Sore throat

Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing    Diarrhea

Fatigue                                                               Congestion or runny nose

Muscle or body aches                                        Nausea or vomiting

Headache

CONCERTS:

We practice so that we can perform.  If your church, clubs/organization, community etc. have an upcoming event, inquire if they would like for us to perform.  We do not charge a fee, but any monetary donations are gratefully accepted.

PRIMARY TEAM:

The stability and direction of the band hinges on a special group of individuals, your officers.  There are no specific requirements (e.g. CPA, CEO) to hold an office, just unlimited joy and the desire to remember every band member name (just kidding).  Officers are elected in November for terms of one year.  Holding an office is a great way for you to have active participation in the daily operation of our group.  Your 2024-2025 Officers are:

President:      Toni Sherrill  (Flute)        million0402@yahoo.com

V. Pres.:         Dennis Pena (Clarinet)    dapena.1998@gmail..com

Secretary:      Gary Muske (Sax)             The3Muskes@gmail.com

Treasurer:     Cynthia Simpson (Sax)     saxycynthia@hotmail.com

Esteemed Conductor:           Thomas Landfried
